When it comes to skin care natural oils are ideal, but with the variety of oils out there it can be difficult to decide which ones works best your needs. When creating my Hello Beautiful! lipsticks I selected five oils that moisturize and hydrate dry, chapped skin, nourish the skin with essential vitamins, and reduce skin aging. Meadow foam seed oil, safflower oil, sesame seed oil, sunflower oil, and avocado oil are full of nutrients that provide skin protection from harmful UV rays while also coating the skin with a protective barrier. The best part is that you can purchase most of these oils from your local grocery. So let’s get started with a breakdown of these five oils skin-loving benefits.

Meadow foam seed oil

Extracted from the meadow foam flower, meadow foam seed oil (Limnanthes alba) gets its name from its appearance. In bloom, a large field of white meadow foam flowers resemble the foam on the sea.

Meadow foam seed oil has several skin benefits which include protecting the skin from UV rays and adding moisture to dry skin. Meadow foam seed oil is highly resistant to heat and oxidation which means that it is resistant to rancidity. Meadow foam seed oil has skin benefits in cosmetics because it is light weight, non greasy and lubricates the skin very well.

Safflower oil

Another underrated oil with skin benefits is safflower oil. Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) is from the same family as the sunflower and is grown in the western Great Plains. Safflower oil is extracted from the seeds of the safflower and is ideal for dry, sensitive skin prone to irritations. Safflower oil is a heavy weight oil with lubricant properties that “coat” the skin giving it a protective layer that effectively locks in water and moisture. This is a great oil for the lips which tend to get dry easily. Safflower oil also has skin benefits because it is filled with vitamins like Omega-6 and antioxidants that prevent wrinkles, hydrate the skin, and promote elasticity.

Sesame seed oil (Sesamum indicum) is “one of the oldest cultivated plants in the world.” It is high in good monounsaturated and unsaturated fats. Sesame seed oil contains fatty acids like oleic, palmitic, stearic and linoleic acid which maintain soft and supple skin. Sesame seed oil also contains high levels of vitamin A and E which reduce the appearance wrinkles and aging skin. In cosmetics sesame seed oil is a natural alternative for anti-aging creams and serums. I include sesame seed oil in my Hello Beautiful! lipsticks because of its all natural anti-aging benefits for the skin and because it is known to naturally remove toxins from the skin!

Sunflower oil
Sunflower oil is high in Omega-3 fatty acids

Not just a beautiful flower, sunflower oil is extracted from the seeds sunflower to produce a lovely golden oil that is high in beta-carotene and antioxidants which protect the skin from the sun. The antioxidants in sunflower oil also prevent premature aging and with regular use, the oil can be used as all natural anti-aging product for skin care.

Avocado oil
Well known for its ability to prevent premature aging, avocado oil moisturizes the skin naturally and is high in Omega-3 fatty acids. Avocado oil is also rich in vitamins A, D, and E. Due to its heavy weight avocado oil is ideal for dry skin that needs a “protective barrier.” Avocado oil is also effective in soothing sun burned skin and chapped lips.

I include all of these oils in my Hello Beautiful! lipsticks because their all natural, botanical skin benefits are ideal for natural beauty. You can purchase my all natural lipstick in my Etsy shop starting Tuesday, November 11, 2014.
